The Physics Department of the University of Coimbra is a research institution, whose activity covers many areas of research. These activities are carried within four Research Centres, which are recognized and evaluated by the national Science and Technology Foundation (FCT). This evaluation is conducted on a regular bases by independent panels appointed by FCT. These centres were rated as "excelent" (1) and "very good" (3) by the last evaluation panel.
