The Physics Museum is located at the Colégio de Jesus, a XVIII century building. The Museum has a unique collection of scientific apparatus and machines dating from centuries XVIII and XIX.
The collection is composed entirely by instruments used at the Gabinete de Physica of the University of Coimbra along its history, since 1772.
This unique collection is one the most notable in the world. The apparatus dating from XVIII century that once made a very complete set for studying experimental physics, are presently a vivid recollection of the science and teaching of those times. They are also magnificent pieces of art.
Part of these instruments and machines are organized as a permanent exibition in two rooms from the XVIII century, which keep their original ambience.
The Physics Museum is now part of the Science Museum of the University of Coimbra.
