Objectives
The PhD course in Science Teaching, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra is directed towards the development of educational research at the interface of science teaching in context - teaching specific sciences in the classroom - and has branches in fields of biology, physics, geology and chemistry. The course uses the valences of the Faculty of Science and Technology, expressed by experts in their scientific and technological research, largely experienced scholars of science and technology, many of them with extensive experience in pre-service and in-service training of teachers for Basic and Secondary Science Education, either in specific disciplines and/or in the supervision of in-school teaching practice. Human resources of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences are also involved through the collaboration of some of specialists in Theories of Teaching, Learning and Assessing. It also has the support of the Faculty of Arts, particularly in the area of Epistemology and History of Science. This third cycle aims at:

- Developing future educational research capabilities, particularly in order to anticipate behaviors, to prepare, execute and analyze results, and to reflect back, developing appropriate feedback in a creative search for professional solutions, increasingly effective;

- Providing students with an open perspective, feeling the need to communicate and disseminate their experiences, being able to defend them among the education community to which it belongs, but also to accept and discuss peers and partners points of view;

- The creation of centers of reflection and analysis in schools to which future doctorates belong , enhancing a more appropriate education for everyone, teachers and students, where everyone feels responsible to reach targets consciously set out to be achieved.

Ultimately, it is intended that future doctors of this course are able to propose and develop projects of Educational Research, and thereby contribute to the emergence of new methods and techniques of science teaching and learning, duly emphasized by experimental results, as more useful from the point of view of the development of a knowledge society
